MoMac Makes a Splash in the More FM Great Canterbury Duck Race
The More FM Great Canterbury Duck Race isn’t just about rubber ducks floating down the river; it’s a community event that combines racing, fundraising, and fun for all ages.
MoMac got in on the action this year, bringing the whole family along for a quacking good time while supporting the Life Education Trust and the Healthy Harold Programme.
Representing the Rangiora creative agency was Duck #71, who joined hundreds of other ducks competing for glory on the Avon River last weekend. MoMac Creative Director Ryan McDonald said the duck, which was painted brightly to stand out from the crowd, finished the race “mid-pack”.
“There was no special training before the race, but my daughter Lydia did take it to preschool for news. She was very proud of our duck as she did a lot of the decorating, and we got a lot of pride watching our duck go down the river.”
For the team at MoMac, the race was about more than just having a good time. The event closely aligned with the company’s core values of family and community, Ryan said.
“Family is important to us at MoMac. We like to think of our team as the MoMac family, and supporting causes that are important to our children’s education and development is something we really believe in.
“We weren’t always in a position to support these causes, so it’s nice to know that our business is now able to do small initiatives like this and give back to the community that supports us.”
The race is in its 7th year and raises vital funds for the Life Education Trust which has been providing health and well-being education programmes for tamariki and schools around New Zealand for more than 35 years.
“Who doesn’t know Harold the Giraffe? I remember Harold doing the rounds when I was at school. It was a massive highlight when the big truck came to school, and It’s great knowing that our kids are now benefiting from the same kind of experience,” Ryan said.
“Our children are our future, and any investment in their development has a positive impact. Teaching kids the right skills for life is so important, and ultimately any charity that supports children makes you feel good and contributes to the greater good.”
